In March 2012 the SIA announced the intention to require existing door supervisors who had achieved the pre-QCF Door Supervision qualification (for example the National Certificate for Door Supervision) to undertake additional training in order to renew their licence.
The new qualification comprises the following two mandatory units:
- Physical Intervention Skills for the Private Security Industry; and
- Safety Awareness for Door Supervisors.
The new Safety Awareness for Door Supervisors unit of assessment and workbook have been developed to cover the following subjects within the security sector:
- Counter Terrorism
- First Aid Awareness
- Dealing with Children and Young People.
Does this apply to me? If you obtained your Door Supervision qualification before 31st August 2010 it will be a mandatory requirement that you pass the Level 2 Up-skilling Door Supervisors Qualification in order to renew your security licence.
What does the Level 2 Up-skilling Door Supervisors Qualification involve? This is a one day course consisting of 2 mandatory units of study – Physical Intervention Skills for the Private Security Industry and Safety Awareness for Door Supervisors.
How will I be assessed?
- Unit 1: Physical Intervention Skills for the Private Security Industry – This unit is assessed in two parts. Part one is a written and practical test and part two is a written test set by HABC and marked by the tutor.
- Unit 2: Safety Awareness for Door Supervisors – This unit is assessed by a 10-question multiple-choice examination set by HABC and internally marked by the Centre. The duration of the examination is 20 minutes. Successful learners must achieve a score of at least 7 out of 10.
